Class Objectives
/Class Outline
Lectures and discussions will be held on a wide range of themes and topics covered by the sociology of education, with course content structured according to the interests of the participants. The aim is to understand sociological theories, concepts and research methods, and to acquire the ability to use them to discuss real educational phenomena from multiple perspectives. Specifically, the course aims to achieve the following objectives.
(1) Understand and explain the theories and concepts of sociology of education.
(2) Understand and explain the research methods of sociology of education.
3) To be able to discuss real-life educational phenomena using the concepts, theories and research methods of the sociology of education. 
Class Schedule The following themes will be covered. Topics are subject to change according to the interests of the students.

Session 1: Introduction
Session 2: Social stratification and education
Session 3: Education and career formation
Session 4: School non-attendance
Session 5: Education for foreigners
Session 6: Sociological analysis of "the first-grade problem in elementary school"
Session 7: Career choices
Session 8: Summary

A final report will be assigned.

Literature and other materials used in lectures may be distributed in advance and should be read carefully. Students are also encouraged to deepen their understanding of each theme by reading literature and materials related to the themes introduced during the lectures.
Questions and answers on the Moodle 'Forum' are also subject to evaluation. Active discussion inside and outside of class time is expected.
