This course pertains to the changes in educational curricula in the school system and examines certain issues in education from historical points of view. Focusing on educational curricula in music, this course reviews and analyzes the literature and relevant documents dealing with the changes in policies, systems, textbooks, and teaching instructions, as well as the various people who had influences on educational curricula. Based on the understanding of the methodology in educational research, the course explores educational progress and issues in music education that lasts for more than a century since the Meiji era reflecting the trend of the times.

Requirements Aside from assignments given at the middle and end of the course, additional assignments and presentations will be required. Evaluation will be based on all work. Student's active attitude to coping with the assignments is necessary.
