To develop students' understanding of how to conduct experimental research in the medical and biological fields, they will work on a mini-project in small groups. |
Class Schedule |
There are eight lectures. 1. Friday, October 4th, 9:30-12:30 “Review of Cell Culturing” Students will review the fundamentals of cell culture as well as the context and goals of this course project. Each student receives the assignment from Teams and completes it at home or in the lab. You are required to provide your laptop and writing implements.
2. Friday, October 11th, 9:30-12:30 “Immunofluorescence Staining of cells, part 1” Students will stain cells with fluorescent dye-labeled antibodies on the 6th floor of Building A. Please come to the front of room A610 at 9:30 a.m. You are required to provide your lab coat and writing implements.
3. Friday, October 18th, 9:30-12:30 “Immunofluorescence Staining of cells, part 2” Students will stain cells with fluorescent dye-labeled antibodies on the 6th floor of Building A. Please come to the front of room A610 at 9:30 a.m. You are required to provide your lab coat and writing implements.
4. Friday, October 25th, 9:30-12:30 “Immunofluorescence Staining of cells, part 3” Students will observe with a confocal laser microscope or fluorescence microscope on the 6th floor of Building A. Please come to the front of room A610 at 9:30 a.m. You are required to provide your lab coat and writing implements.
5. Friday, November 1st, 9:30-12:30 “Cell surface antigen analysis by flow cytometry, part 1” Students will stain the differentiated cells with antibodies against cell surface markers on the 6th floor of Building A. Please come to the front of room A610 at 9:30 a.m. You are required to provide your lab coat and writing implements.
6. Friday, November 8th, 9:30-12:30 “Cell surface antigen analysis by flow cytometry, part 2” Students will learn how to use flowcytometry to analyze cell surface antigens on the 6th floor of Building A. Please come to the front of room A610 at 9:30 a.m. You are required to provide your lab coat and writing implements.
7. Friday, November 15th, 9:30-12:30 “Cell surface antigen analysis by flow cytometry, part 3” Students will analyze flowcytometry data using FlowJo software. Each student receives the assignment from Teams and completes it at home or in the lab. You are required to provide your lab coat and writing implements.
8. Friday, December 22nd, 9:30-12:30 “Data analysis” Students will visualize and interpret the results of the experiment. Each student receives the assignment from Teams and completes it at home or in the lab. You are required to provide your lab coat and writing implements.
