(Applicable only to targeted subjects for undergraduate students) This course is one of the elective subjects in the category of "Sustainable Development Courses" for Common Graduate Courses. This category of courses aims to provide opportunities for students to understand the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), set by an international agreement. It also aims to equip students with the ability to advance science to enable sustainable development and the ability to solve various challenges in society.
※This is an on-demand class offered to students with difficulty attending school during regular hours.

Class Objectives
/Class Outline The common programme for master's students is a part of Hiroshima-moedel liberal arts education which also includes undergraduate liberal art subjects. It was formed in accordance with the SDGs and the Splendor Plan 2017, Hiroshima University's long-term vision. The SDGs are the challenges of our age and society whose core is the sustainability. They require us not only to solve individual issues but also to respond to multiple challenges with disciplinary and temporal continuity. Furthermore, in order to find solutions to the challenges, we need a new form of society where not only donor countries and recipient countries but also local governments, private enterprises and civil society work in partnership. In Academic approach to SDGs - B, the major focus will be on environment, society and governance. It is recommended to register for this course together with Academic approach to SDGs - A.

A short report is required after each lesson, which also serves for evaluation.

Preparation and
Review There are abundant internet materials on SDGs. Students are required to check those materials and textbooks before lessons. In addition, it is necessary to reflect on the SDGs so that you can develop your own ideas.

Requirements Students falling under any of the following conditions will be allowed to take the on-demand classes.
(1)Students who conduct their main research outside the Higashi-Hiroshima, Kasumi, and Higashi-Senda Campuses in the relevant term
(2)Working adult students
(3)Students who have difficulty commuting to the university during the relevant term due to family circumstances, such as child care commitments
(4)Students who have difficulty commuting to the university during the relevant term due to injury or illness
(5)Students who have difficulty completing the course within the study term due to the scheduling of their degree program (limited to cases approved by the head of the relevant program)
Students who wish to apply for on-demand courses based on these special cases shall submit the “Statement of Reasons for Course Registration” and attach relevant documents.

Grading Method Requirements for Acceptance of Credits:
◎Watch the video on Moodle and submit all the tasks specified by the deadline.
◎Submit the final report as instructed.
◎Even if all the assignments and reports have been submitted, credits may not be recognized due to the following “Grading” criteria.

Grading:
Evaluation based on a report of the theme specified by the lecturer for each lesson.
