Class Status within Educational Program (Applicable only to targeted subjects for undergraduate students) | The purpose of this course is two-fold. One is to form a solid foundation in grammar, vocabulary and writings in Japanese on the core students have acquired in the introductory Japanese so that students can develop proficiency in different communicative activities. The other is to build in students' oral proficiency in Japanese equivalent to A2.2 (strong Waystage) in CEFR scale or N4 in JLPT scale. Students will learn different grammars and structures that will enable them to engage in different topical communicative activities in oral and written mode, while learning 170 additional kanjis. |

Students will be able to; (1) handle basic daily topics including one's life, one's leisure time activities, one's future, one's abilities or special talents, gift giving/receiving situations, situations in which one is supported or assisted by other people, situations in which one supported or assisted other people, situations in which one is praised or scolded by other people, a situation in which one is forced to do something, miserable experiences, a country's geographic and linguistic situations and climate, etc. (2) produce and understand utterances that are constructed using basic grammars and structures and basic vocabulary, and recognize and reproduce 300 basic kanjis and kanji words that contain them. |

・Students who are placed into Level 1 based on the placement test and not a native speaker of Japanese. ・Required to take 2 classes per week ・This class must be taken together with 日本語入門/Introductory Japanese B-1 |
Grading Method |
Students are graded applying the following formula. ・Class participation --- 20% ・Essay of each unit --- 30% ・Grammar Practice Sheet and Writing Practice Sheet of each unit --- 20% ・Oral exam(oral presentation)---10% ・Written exam --- 20% *The formula is subject to slight change. |
