Class Objectives
/Class Outline
Mechanics is one of the mainstays of physics and engineering as well as electromagnetics, and hence an important subject for students in the department of science and engineering as a foundation to be acquired.

Our goal in General Mechanics is to systematically provide the principles and laws of mechanics for engineering students. Students coming out of this class should have a deep conceptual understanding of classical Newtonian mechanics. This course, General Mechanics II, provides instruction in dynamics of multiparticle system and rigid body on the basis of the dynamics of one-particle provided in General Mechanics I.
Class Schedule lesson1:Two-body problem; reduced mass and relative motion of two particles
lesson2:Motion of planets governed by Kepler’s law
lesson3: Collision phenomena and conservation law of linear momentum
lesson4:Continuum model and the integral representation of the center of mass.
Motion of center of mass of multiparticle system; relationship between force and temporal differentiation of total momentum.
lesson5:
Total angular momentum of mass system and its time derivative, moment of force, kinetic energy
lesson6: Motion of rigid body and degree of freedom
lesson7: :Rotation of rigid body with a fixed axis and the moment of inertia
lesson8:The examples of moment of inertia for some typical rigid bodies
lesson9:  Rigid body pendulum
lesson10: Planar motion of rigid bodies
lesson11: Kinetic energy of rigid bodies
lesson12: Static equilibrium of rigid body
lesson13:Translational relative motion and fictitious forces
lesson14: Rotational relative motion and fictitious forces
lesson15: Coriolis force and centrifugal force

Review
Read the textbook and/or handouts very carefully before the class and solve exercises in the textbook after the class.
No points will be deducted for any mistakes made during the learning process, so think at your own pace until you are satisfied with the results.
Requirements Students are expected to have taken the class of “General Physics I”.
The actual class schedule might vary flexibly depending on the students and the situation. So please ask the actual schedule to each teacher of the class.
Grading Method The evaluation will be based on the level and number of items achieved among the targets.
Self-evaluation is also introduced.
