By the end of this course the student will be able to:
1) Understand the social context of destitute children in British society in the Nineteenth century from the viewpoint of sociology.
2) Describe the situation of disadvantaged children in British society in the Nineteenth century.

Students are expected to discuss the contemporary issues about children in public care in Japan from the standpoint of sociology. It is important for students to read the required chapters well in advance of each class. 
Requirements The course has no specific prerequisites.  
Grading Method Term papers and regular class participation are essential for this class.
