Class Objectives
/Class Outline
This class is a basic introduction to regional geography, taking Japan as an example. It will introduce the basic structure of Japanese regions and their issues. Students will conduct research during class in groups and prepare a presentation on one prefecture of Japan. 
Class Schedule 1. Introduction to Regional Geography
2. Read Japan through maps and statistics
3. Land of volcanos and earthquakes: Natural Geography and climate (SDG 13,15)
4. Land of volcanos and earthquakes: Natural Geography and climate (SDG 13,15)
5. Variety of landform in Japan (Kumahara Yasuhiro)
6. Identify regional issues in Japan through statistics
7. Demographic Issues
8. Metropolitan areas and regional cities (SDG 11)
9. Metropolitan areas and regional cities (SDG 11); Explanation for group work
10. Agriculture and rural revitalization in Japan (Goto Takuya)

Preparation will be announced during class.
10-15th lecture: students need to prepare for group work by gathering material and preparing a presentation for the last class. 
Requirements Any mails concerning this class should include the class name "Regional Geography of Japan" in the mail title. 
Grading Method Reports, tasks or small tests in class 80%
Group presentation and report  20%
Tasks handed in after the deadline will not be accepted, unless there is a serious reason (like illness).
