Class Objectives
/Class Outline
The course consists of two interlocking classes per week. Together with Basic Chinese II, III, and IV, the course aims to provide students with a balanced and comprehensive acquisition of the basic Chinese skills of "听 (listening), 说 (speaking), 读 (reading), and 写 (writing)" over the course of one year. The aim is to acquire the basic skills of "听 (listening)," "说 (speaking)," "读 (reading)," and "写 (writing)" in a well-balanced and comprehensive manner. 
Class Schedule Through examples and skits from the textbook, students will learn basic grammatical items step by step and acquire the four skills of 听・说・读・写 in a well-balanced manner.

1-4 Learn about Pinyin and the pronunciation system of the Chinese language.

5th-14th: Grammar explanation, reading, listening comprehension, and conversation practice based on the textbook, aiming to acquire grammatical knowledge and expressive ability. Specific instructions on how to proceed and how to study will be given in class.

15th Review and summary of the first term

Instructions on how to prepare and review will be given in class. All assignments must be submitted by the due date. 
Requirements All students except for repeaters must take two paired classes.  
Grading Method Evaluation is holistic following the rough indication below:
  Active participation in the class: approximately 40%
  Final examination: approximately 60%

, three times a year (the fourth Sunday of March, June, and November). If you study regularly in (and outside) the class, you will be sufficiently developed to achieve the fourth grade level. You should try it.
