Class Objectives
/Class Outline
This course takes place twice a week, and is designed for students with about 60 hours of learning experience of Russian. Together with Basic Russian IV, to be offered also twice a week in the fourth quarter, students should learn the elementary vocabulary, expressions, and grammar necessary for basic communication in everyday situations in Russia. We'll deal with Russian culture and society as well as language, and provide opportunities to consider the cultural differences between Japan and Russia.
 
Class Schedule An Introduction to basic communication and grammar.
Grammar topics: the writing and sound system of Russian, gender, prepositional and accusative cases, present tense of first and second conjugation verbs, possession, postulating existence, genitive case, adjectives and possessives in oblique cases, modals, reflexives, motion verbs, dative case, etc.

Students should enjoy learning vocabulary at their own pace. Students should also do homework regularly to keep up with the class content. It is also important to learn the longhand Cyrillic alphabet. When learning vocabulary, students need to learn the pronunciation and spelling as well as the meaning.
