Requirements  
Grading Method In planning classes and evaluating students, the following items should be taken into account:

(1) Comprehension at the discourse level
Students should be able to:
1. Correctly understand information and intentions;
2. Correctly understand contextual meaning.

(2) Knowledge and skills for effective listening
Students should be able to:
1. Understand the gist and details in accordance with discourse type;
2. Respond to naturally-spoken English.

(3) Knowledge and skills for effective reading
Students should be able to:
1. Critically evaluate writers’ intentions by taking into account the purpose of the writings;
2. Identify the discourse structure and cohesion to employ appropriate reading skills.

(4) Vocabulary and grammar
Students should attain sufficient lexical and grammatical knowledge to understand texts such as those listed under “Contents” in the syllabus.

(5) Attitude
Students should:
1. Demonstrate a positive attitude towards communication activities;
2. Endeavor to overcome any breakdowns in communication that may occur.
