The "Advanced Seminar" will be held to give students opportunities to practically utilize their comprehensive knowledge to create new value and solve problems in society, based on their learning in the "Introductory Seminar for First-Year Students". It is designed for students to cultivate problem-finding and problem-solving skills through the study and discussion of cutting-edge topics and hands-on learning in small classes that transcend school and grade boundaries, and to develop challenge, presentation, and leadership skills. 
Expected OutcomeIn combination with the "Introduction to University Education" and the "Introductory Seminar for First-Year Students", students are expected to:
1. Form an independent learning attitude
2. Improve their problem-finding and problem-solving skills
3. Improve their logical and critical thinking skills
4. Improve their reading comprehension, expression, presentation, and discussion skills
5. Improve their communication and leadership skills 
Class Objectives
/Class Outline
Learn about the history and culture of the use of animal resources through experiences such as “animal skeleton specimens making” and “bone and antler implements making” necessary for zoo-archaeology to clarify the history of the relationship between humans and animals.
The goal of the lecture is to deepen interest in and understanding of related fields such as zoology, natural history, and environmental studies.
Skeletal specimens making is one of the activities carried out at natural history museums. Students experience s series of operations, learn the skeletal form and its mechanism, and the joy of making things.
 
Class Schedule This seminar will be conducted by Norio Shimizu, an associate professor of the Hiroshima University Museum, and Eriko Ishimaru, a researcher.
Lecture 1: guidance, commentary on zoo-archaeology and related sciences (Shimizu, Ishimaru)
Lecture 2-5: animal skeleton specimens making (Ishimaru)
Lecture 6-7: bone and antler implement making (Ishimaru)
Lecture 8: summary and discussion (Shimizu, Ishimaru)

We advise students to create opportunities to visit various museums and to develop the habit of examining materials. 
Requirements Due to restrictions on work space and tools, the maximum number of participants is 6.
If there are many applicants, we will ask them to submit a motivation for taking the course in about 200 characters and select 6applicants.
The student is required to have " Personal Accident Insurance for Students Pursuing Education and Research".
 
Grading Method Grades will be evaluated on the work produced in lecture and the attitude of participation in the 8th discussion.
Evaluation will be on a pass/fail basis only, and will not be on a 5-step evaluation.
