Class Objectives

Under the mentorship of teachers at the Center for Special Needs Education Research and Practice, students are expected to take part in educational counseling, conduct psychological tests, and provide instruction to parents depending on the results of psycholocial tests. Also, students will conduct excercises in the second semester. By conduting exercises, students will learn how to organize them. Students will write report on how to establish an annual teaching plan.

Preparation and
Review
Students are expected to conduct psychological tests at a class. So students are expected to learn how to conduct the tests ahead of the lessons.
Practice should be conducted based on evidence. Students are expected to provide explanation on lesson plans to parents and other students, such why the lesson plan is desinged in a certain way, etc. 
Requirements This class is designed for students who wish to develop their teaching skills as special needs education teachers. Students without high interest and ability may not be allowed to take this class. 
Grading Method Class particaption and report assignments are major factors of evaluation. Also, students' teaching skills as special needs education teachers will be subject to evaluation. 
Practical Experience Experienced  
Summary of Practical Experience and Class Contents based on it A teacher(Dr. Ujima) who has worked for 12 years at a school for the blind will give lectures on the psychology, evaluation, and teaching methods of visually impaired people.
Based on the lecturer's experience as a speech-language pathologist in the U.S., the lecture will give students how the special education systems are different between Japan and the U.S., and how to work with students who have learning disabilities and other related disabilities (Dr. Kawai).
 
Message Educational counseling offered at institutes such as the Center for Special Needs Education Research and Practice requires high quality and high responsibility. Immature students or students who don't obey educational counselers are not allowed to take this class. 
Other The faculty members who have experiences of working at special needs schools, public schools and university in the United States as a speech-language pathologist introduce practical contents based on their experiences.

This is considered as a developmental class, so is not be recognized a credit required for teaching license.
