Class Objectives
/Class Outline
The objective of this class is to understand the basics of material mechanics and structural mechanics.
Students should be able to understand the followings:
(1) Equilibrium of force
(2) Internal force, stress, deformation and strain of materials
(3) Relationship between stress and strain of materials
(4) Internal force of building structures
Student should also be able to apply them to simple beams and frame structures to calculate their deformation and stress.
Class Schedule Lesson 1: Introduction
Lesson 2~3: Equilibrium of force
Lesson 4~5: Characteristics of material
Lesson 6~7: Sectional force and stress of beam
Lesson 8~9: Sectional force diagram
Lesson 10: First intermediate examination
Lesson 11~12: Characteristics of section
Lesson 13~15: Stress of section
Lesson 16: Principal stress
Lesson 17~19:statically determinate frame
Lesson 20: Second intermediate examination
Lesson 21~23:Deflection of statically determinate beam
Lesson 24~26:Statically determinate truss
Lesson 27~29:Buckling of column and frame
Lesson 30:Final Examination

This class is divided into three parts. An examination is given at the end of every part.
