In this class, students will learn more and develop further understanding about chemical engineering using seminars about what the students have learned in the fundamental subjects.
Students are supposed to have finished the class “Stoichiometry” before this seminar.
Students are preferred to take the class “Basic Chemical Engineering” with this seminar.

Class Objectives
/Class Outline
The objective of this seminar is to acquire the knowledges and abilities as follows;
1) Ability to understand about handling of physical quantity and to calculate it including unit conversion
2) Ability to calculate mass balance in a system without reacton and with combustion reaction
3) Ability to calculate enthalpy balance without reaction
4) Ability to understand about handling of heat of reaction and to calculate enthalpy balance
5) Ability to calculate mass, heat and energy balance in flow system.
6) Ability to understand about basic heat transfer and to calculate engineering calculation.
7) Ability to calculate the heat balance for the design of heat exchanger.
8) Ability to understand about basic mass transfer and to calculate engineering calculation.

lesson2: Seminar in mass balance in a system without reacton
lesson3: Seminar in mass balance in a system with combustion reaction
lesson4: Seminar in mass balance in a chemical process
lesson5: Seminar in change of physical state, heat of reaction  and enthalpy balance
lesson6: Seminar in enthalpy balance in a chemical process
lesson7: Test in order to evaluate the learning achievement about stochometry
lesson8: Seminar in flow, velocity distribution and friction
Lesson 9: Seminar in mass and energy balance and friction loss for flow in tubes.
Lesson 10: Seminar in thermal conductivity.  
Lesson 11: Seminar in heat conduction.
Lesson 12: Seminar in a design for a heat exchanger.
Lesson 13: Seminar in mass diffusivity.
Lesson 14: Seminar in gas absorption and mass transfer coefficients.
Lesson 15: Test in order to evaluate the learning achievement about a basic chemical engineering ( transport phenomena ).

Preparation and
Review
Prepare for understanding about following matters:
Lesson 1: Unit conversion for SI unit
Lesson 2: Mass balance
Lesson 3: Combustion reaction
Lesson 4: Chemical process
Lesson 5: Physical state,   heat of reaction and enthalpy
Lesson 6: Enthalpy balance in a chemical process
Lesson 7: There needs to be a total review about stocheometry of the lessons 1 to 6.
Lesson 8: Newton’s law of viscosity, turbulent flow, laminar flow, velocity distribution for tube flow, friction factors for flow and Hagen-Poiseuille law.  
Lesson 9: Momentum balance, mass balance, Bernouli equation, friction factor for tube and orifice performance.
Lesson 10:  Conduction heat transfer, Fourier’s law and thermal conductivity.
Lesson 11: Convection heat transfer and heat transfer coefficients.
Lesson 12:  Design of heat exchanger and over-all het-transfer coefficients
Lesson 13: Mass flux, Fick’s law, diffusion coefficient and diffusion in steady stae.
Lesson 14: Mass transfer coefficient, gas absorption, Henry’s law and over-all mass transfer coefficient .
Lesson 15: There needs to be a total review about transport phenomena of the lessons 8 to14.
 
Requirements Students are required to attend all seminars and submit all reports.
Prepare textbook, scientific electronic calculator, writing pad (A4), writing tools, stapler and ruler. 
Grading Method Up to 50 points for the mid-term and the term-end examinations.
Up to 50 points for every seminar attendance and all report submission.
Any score below 60 points counts as failure.
Less than 12 times attendances for seminars are disqualified.
