Class Objectives
/Class Outline
To learn the knowledge and get the ability necessary to plan and design chemical processes.
The actual contents are as follows.
1) Understanding of the background and properties of the target chemical plant, selection of the chemical processes
2) Acquisition and estimation of necessary data
3) Decision of the reaction and separation methods
4) Analyses of mass and heat balances of process components
5) Basic design of the chemical equipments
6) Understanding of the process flow and the function of process components
7) Analyses of mass and heat balances of the chemical plant
8) Optimization of the chemical process based on the economic efficiency and safety
9) Oral presentation of the results of process design
10) Preparation of a written report on the results of process design 
Class Schedule lessons 1-3: Evaluation of exiting chemical plants, survey of the supply and demand of chemical products and outline configuration
of a new chemical plant
lessons 4-6: Acquisition and estimation of fundamental data of the related compounds and approximate calculation of mass
balance
lessons 7-10: Understanding of the process components, selection and design of suitable unit operations
lessons 11-14: Detailed design of the chemical plant, analyses of mass and heat balance, evaluation of the economic efficiency
and safety
lesson 15: Preparation of report on the result of process design, oral presentation
lesson 16: Final examination

Requirements  
Grading Method Grading will be determined on the achievement of Class Objectives (90%) and final examination (10%) evaluated on a 100-point scale. A score of 60-points or more will pass.
