Class Objectives /Class Outline |
Due to the effects of climate change and human activities such as deforestation and fire, forests around the world, especially tropical forests, are not only decreasing in area, but are also being degraded, with the composition and structure of the forests changing from that of the primary forest. The lecture will cover the ecological basis of forests, outlining research findings and international initiatives on issues such as deforestation, forest degradation, biodiversity conservation and sustainable forest management under the influence of climate change, using tropical forests in South-East Asia and South America as examples. |
Class Schedule |
The lecture will be given over two days and will cover the following topics. A more detailed lesson plan will be published as soon as the start date is fixed. -- Content 1: Fundamentals of forest ecology -- Content 2: Tropical forests of South-East Asia -- Content 3: Tropical forests of South America -- Content 4: Forests, climate change and sustainable forest management
Evaluation will be based on reports, etc. |
