Class Objectives

This course will provide basic knowledge about the meaning and system of special needs education and the actual conditions of infants and toddlers with special needs, and to deepen understanding of the considerations and devices required to support independent learning of infants and toddlers with special needs and the concept of curriculum organization. 
Class Schedule Lesson1: The philosophy of inclusive education and the significance and system of Special Needs Education(Omori)
Lesson2: Supporting the learning of children with Autism and Emotional Disorders(Wakamatsu)
Lesson3: Supporting the learning of children with learning disabilities and attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder(Murakami)
Lesson4: Supporting the learning of children with speech and language disorder(Kawai)
Lesson5:  Supporting the learning of children with Intelectual disorder(Asaoka)
Lesson6:  Supporting the learning of children with Physical disability, health impairment(Funabashi)
Lesson7: Supporting the learning of children with Visual Impairment(Ujima/Mori)
Lesson8:Supporting the learning of children with Hearing Impairments(Hayashida/Shinkai)

The exam will be held on Friday, August 9 and Monday, August 12. You will be required to take the exam on one of these dates, so please make sure to secure your schedule. Details regarding times, etc. will be communicated through Momijiya and Teams.

Please review the orientation video and orientation materials, then watch and study the videos that will be uploaded to Microsoft Teams in sequence. After watching each video, you will be asked to submit a comment sheet from Microsoft Forms. Therefore, please prepare your PC or smart phone, etc. for class.
The 7th and 8th sessions will be 70 minutes each. The person in charge may be replaced.

Requirements This course corresponds to the 'understanding of  children with special needs' under the Core Curriculum for Teachers' License. 
Grading Method Evaluate by examination. 
Practical Experience Experienced  
Summary of Practical Experience and Class Contents based on it Dr. Kawai who have experiences of working at public schools and university in the United States as a speech-language pathologist will have lesson 1 and 4.
Dr. Ujima who has worked for 12 years at a school for the blind will have lesson 7.
They introduce practical contents based on their experiences.
