Course Objectives and Themes

This course aims to develop students' comprehensive ability to understand and apply the concepts of entrepreneurship, leadership, and management in the context of sports. By starting with sports that everyone can participate in, students will identify social issues, pursue solutions, and bring about social change. The course also emphasizes the ability to continuously and autonomously stay at the forefront of these efforts after the course ends.

Course Overview

The course goes beyond the individual enjoyment of sports and explores how to use sports and related activities to solve various social issues from a "here and now" perspective. It examines this topic from an interdisciplinary perspective, covering entrepreneurship as effectuation, leadership, management, and even legal and economic issues related to organizational development. Students will begin by identifying social issues in their own surroundings, but they will also learn about the unprecedented challenges (grand challenges) facing Japan and the global society as a whole. They will also learn about the need for transformative innovation and the importance of building future scenarios based on anticipatory governance rather than "dealing with things as they come up." This is what is required in the field of sports management today.
