Class Objectives /Class Outline |
The class explores the various aspects of the history and culture of the relationship of Hiroshima and the Chugoku Region to East Asia in an attempt to construct an image of historical experiences with people in these areas through methods including field trips. Students will study modern exchanges of people and goods between Japan and East Asia and participate in field trips to learn about the history and cultural exchanges of the islands in the Inland Sea of Japan. Next we will learn about the modern history of Hiroshima as a military city and source of emigration, and delve into the memory and historical experience of the city in the Asia-Pacific War, including the atomic bombing. Field trips will visit and discuss Hiroshima and Kure city. Student interest in the issues will deepen through participants inspiring one another. This class is connected to Seminar on history and culture in East Asia. I wish participants to take both classes. |
