The purpose of the course is for each student to write a thesis of at least 6,000 words on his/her chosen topic.

I will meet each student regularly to discuss his/her thesis, appropriate primary and secondary readings, and the form in which the thesis should be presented. I will also advise students on their writing and use of English.

Students should choose a research topic in an area of their own interest, study relevant texts and criticism, and write an original extended essay of at least 6,000 words.  
Requirements Students are required to have passed every class of specialized lectures such as English Literary History, English Language History, English Phonetics, and so forth. 
Grading Method Students will be assessed on the basis of the Japanese draft of their completed theses.
