Class Objectives
/Class Outline
The objective of this course is to examine interesting phenomena found in French from a linguistic perspective.  Comparison with other languages will be sometimes incorporated into the analyses. 
Class Schedule    The special focus of analysis and examination is on "reflexive verbs" in French.  Reflexive verbs, found in many European languages, are related to a lot of linguistically interesting issues, such as voice phenomena, causative-inchoative alternation, unaccusativity, genericity, modality etc. In parallel with theoretical examination, this course is also aimed at encoutering as many constructions and usages as possible through comprehending reading materials, in order to increase French proficiency which will be the basis for linguistic analyses.  (The rate of progress, and other factors of the course are subject to change according to the degree of students' understanding.)
