Class Objectives
/Class Outline
This course will provide an overview of the family from a sociological perspective (e.g., the functions of the family, changing family and marriage forms, theoretical and research frameworks in studying the family). It will emphasize how diversity – including race/ethnicity, gender, sexuality, and social class – influences the structure and functions of the family. The overall aim of this course is to help students develop knowledge and skills to challenge the normative understanding of the family.

Requirements Students must take Family Diversity I and Family Diversity II together.
The maximum enrollment for this course is forty. If the number of students who have registered for the course exceeds the enrollment limit, a lottery will be held at the first class meeting.
