Class Objectives /Class Outline |
This course will provide an overview of the family from a sociological perspective (e.g., the functions of the family, changing family and marriage forms, theoretical and research frameworks in studying the family). It will emphasize how diversity – including race/ethnicity, gender, sexuality, and social class – influences the structure and functions of the family. The overall aim of this course is to help students develop knowledge and skills to challenge the normative understanding of the family. |

Requirements |
Students must take Family Diversity I and Family Diversity II together. The maximum enrollment for this course is forty. If the number of students who have registered for the course exceeds the enrollment limit, a lottery will be held at the first class meeting. |
