The scope of this course encompasses research and theories on acquisition and learning naturalistically and/or with the aid of formal instruction, as adult learners in both second and foreign language settings. We will explore the mechanisms of SLA through reading research papers conducted with different theoretical frameworks. |

You are strongly encouraged to do online search for any unfamiliar technichal terms and reserach methods to deepen your understanding as much as possible. Please bring your inquires to the next class otherwinse. Also, the questions to be discussed in class are welcomed (, yet please do not expect the instructor to give you answers!.) |
Requirements |
1. Upper-intermediate level of English proficiency is required since students are required to read and understand professional journals written and carry class discussion in English (TOEIC 550 minimum). 2. Students are strongly recommended to take some linguistic courses (e.g., phonology, syntax, morphology, and pragmatics). Linguistics background are surely helpful. 3. You are strongly recommended to continuously take Foreign Language Acquisition & Communication II. |
Grading Method |
1. Class Contribution 20% 2. Journal Summaries 30% 3. In-class final exam 50% Your performance will not be adequately evaluated unless you submit the weekly assignments and take the exam in principle. |
