To learn basic knowledge and experimental techniques required in analyses and interpretation of natural environments through laboratory and field studies. |
Class Schedule |
・Guidance (1: Representative) Methods of registration, usage of the laboratory, preparation for experiments, and others. ・Basic of field plant studies (2-5: Nakatsubo) This course aims to provide the students with basic knowledge and skills for studying plants in the field. ・Field study on evaluations of foliage structure in forests using near-surface and remotely sensed methods and data analysis (6-8: Toda) ・Permeabilities and pore structures of rocks (9-12: Yokoyama, Niko) We will measure the permeability, water imbibition characteristics, dissolution rate, and the size and shape of pores in rocks by means of permeability test, water-expulsion method, etc. (Yokoyama) We will examine pollens in the sediments and presume the vegetation and climate at the time of sedimentation. (Niko) ・Experiment in forest meteorology (13-15: Tsuchiya) A forest mitigates excessive increase in temperature and decrease in humidity under the canopy. In this experiment, basic meteorological measurements are carried out at a bare soil and at a forest floor to understand the mitigation effects of forest from heat balance components of solar radiation. |
