Class Objectives
/Class Outline
The primary goal of this course is to provide an overview of pragmatics, the study of language use in social contexts. This course aims to develop awareness of how meaning is constructed in social interaction and to practice pragmatic analysis. Cross-cultural comparison and intercultural pragmatics, focusing on appropriate interaction in English and Japanese will be emphasized. In addition, workplace pragmatics will be emphasized with English as a Lingua Franca.
