This class is mainly lecture. We will explain by using the blackboard frequently. We proceed classe while using distribution materials and slides as appropriate.

Through the specialized theories of museum collection, students will learn theories, methods and skills regarding contents, features, acquisition, organization and storage of museum collections. Through understanding research activities in museums, students will acquire a basic competence with museum materials. Then we will explain collection theories for archaeological and historical, art area concretely and from the professional point of view.

The objectives are to learn basic theories and methods regarding materials, which are the most fundamental resource in a museum, and to acquire a basic competence for with exhibition and promotion.
Students will receive an overview of the categories and features of museum materials(humanities areas) and the methods of their collection, organization and storage.

lesson 3 Classification and Packing Method on Earthenware (Nojima)
lesson 4 Study and Physicochemical Analysis Method for Metal Artifacts  (Nojima)
lesson 5 Characteristics of arts and craft materials (Tatara)
lesson 6 Research on arts and craft materials(Tatara)
lesson 7 Preservation and exhibition of arts and craft materials (Tatara)
lesson 8 Storage and Exhibition of Museum Collection for Humanities areas (Kawashima)

Visit as many museums, including those of non-specialized areas, and try to acquire knowledge of museum collections. If you find museums which show their backyard to the public, try to have an active involvement.
