1. (Common to all students) Reads specialized paper and provides information useful to teaching Japanese as a second language.
2. (For students majoring in grammar) Develops capabilities to consider current state/method of grammar research and do research of grammar independently.  
Class Schedule      Read recent papers on modern Japanese grammar to learn advanced research effect and to apply it to teaching Japanese as second language, developing a skill to study the grammar independently.


     To be more specific, we will read papers such as ones published in specialized magazines or books.

Preparation and
Review
1. Presenter must provide a clear exposition about sections in charge (try to make a presentation through which someone who hasn’t read the original text can understand the contents.)
2. For students other than the presenter, read the text and handout beforehand and attend the class.
 
Requirements Assuming students who are applicable to either 1 or 2 of the following.
1. Those who will write a master thesis on contemporary Japanese grammar
2. Those who want to know the latest research results on contemporary Japanese grammar and make use of it for Teaching Japanese as a second language.
Refrain from “listening to the lectures” only. As long as students participate in the class, make comments and join discussions regardless of needs of credits.

Grading Method Verbal presentations (incl. handouts) 50%, contribution in classes 50%
