|In this lecture, students will learn basic and fundamental natural science ethics, related laws and regulations, and recent topics that they should know before starting actual natural scientific research at the university laboratory.
|[Objective] Modern natural science has developed rapidly and research in universities is in a position to lead its development. However, with the rapid progress of natural science, the sense of ethics that should be originally thought is diluted. Under such circumstances, since there is a possibility of misjudging the direction of natural science, it is necessary to regulate by law in order to deter it. In other words, it is important that the progress of natural scientific research is regulated so as not to deviate from the conservation of the natural environment and the maintenance of a safe human society, with awareness of SDGs. This class aims to understand the importance of compliance in the research and experiment of natural science.
[Outline] Faculty members engaged in radiation experiments, low temperature experiments, genetic experiments, and animal experiments at Integrated Experimental Support / Research Division in the Natural Science Center for Basic Research and Development will explain the ethics and laws on research and experiments in their respective fields in an easy-to-understand manner. The sense of compliance of students involved in natural science research will be fostered.
In this class, we divide the whole into four units of radiation experiments, cryogenic experiments, genetic experiments and animal experiments, and conduct related classes two to four lessons in each. Each person in charge is as follows;
1) Radiation experiment: Satoru Nakashima, Kuninobu Inada, and Akihito Matsushima
2) Cryogenic experiment: Kazunori Umeo
3) Genetic experiment: Nobukazu Tanaka, Kenji Kitamura, and Chihiro Furumizu
4) Animal experiment: Yusuke Sotomaru and Asako Nobukiyo

lesson11：Understand the problem for utilizing gene sequence database information for genetic modification of living organisms (synthetic biology).
lesson12：Understand the impact of latest technologies, genome editing and gene drive, on the environment.
lesson13：Understand ethics and compliance with laws and regulations in animal experiments.
lesson14：Understand the norms of advanced animal experiments such as cloning and stem cells research.
lesson15：Understand the necessity of animal welfare for laboratory animals in animal experiments.
|Although there are no particular attention and conditions for taking courses in this class, students who are planning to conduct research in the field of natural sciences, such as life sciences, are desirable.
|We evaluate at 100 points with about 50 points for each quiz and about 50 points for a final examination (final report).
