This course will equip students with the skills of problem-finding and problem-solving in their social lives, through learning an overview of our social security system and thinking about how the public and private protection system should be. (Contemporary Economics Programme)

Students who take this course will be given useful knowledge and the way of thinking as a member of sustainable civil society to come, through understanding risks hidden in our daily lives and learning the function and the role of life insurance as a tool for avoiding and mitigating the risks.

Preparation and
Reviewing the classes by revisiting lecture materials is desirable for better understanding. 
Requirements Students are required to have taken “Special Lectures(Overview of the Life Insurance Business in Japan)1” class of this academic year. Otherwise, you would be granted D (failure) for this class (i.e. Special Lectures 2). 
Grading Method Assessment will be based on final exam(80%)and some reports(20%).  
Practical Experience Experienced  
Summary of Practical Experience and Class Contents based on it This is an endowed-course set up by the Life Insurance Association of Japan (LIAJ). Each class will be delivered by life insurance practitioners from the LIAJ, major life insurance companies and the Japan Institute of Life Insurance. 
Message Students are encouraged to gather information about the ongoing reform of social security regime responding to declining birth rates and rising life expectancy, and try to have better recognition of the issues, so that you can enjoy and better understand the classes. Through learning Life Planning and Life Insurance, this course offers you a valuable opportunity to think about your own life.
