To improve the ability to write grammatical sentences and to connect the sentences appropriately in order to write well-organized paragraphs on familiar topics. Also, to improve the ability to express one’s ideas and opinions in English, in consideration of the reader’s social and cultural background.

Grading Method In planning classes and evaluating students, the following items should be taken into account:

(1) Form
Students should be able to:
1. write well-constructed sentences;
2. connect sentences appropriately in order to write well-organized paragraphs;
3. use appropriate openings and closings (e.g., ‘Best Wishes’) in letters and
4. use an appropriate written register for personal essays.

(2) Practical Writing Skills
Students should be able to:
1. express a personal opinion on familiar topics in a written note or e-mails;
2. summarize information from sources;
3. state reasons for courses of action;
4. communicate basic information.

(3) Vocabulary and Grammar
Students should attain sufficient lexical and grammatical knowledge to write the types of text such as those listed under “Contents” of the syllabus

(4) Attitude
Students should:
1. demonstrate a positive attitude towards communication activities;
2. endeavor to overcome any breakdowns in communication that may occur.
