Class Objectives
/Class Outline
Training of product development, from design to evaluation and design review of your product. Plan the project of making a transmission gear box based on the given information such as the specifications of generators, the method of connection to them, and so on. Design performance of the gear box and the method of evaluation about how much the box accomplished its designed performance. Design and draft your gear box in detail, ensuring the strength and the performance of each individual parts and sub-assemblies. Machine parts, and assemble your gear box. Measure main structural parts of the gear box and evaluate the performance of the box by your designed method. Confirm your gear box accomplishes the designed performance.
In this class, students will learn methods and processes for design and manufacturing products such as :
1) Design capability to make machine fulfilling the performance you planed.
2) Promotion of the capability to set a clear gaol of the project and to carry out the project in a well-planned way.
3) Draft of a machine on the basis of its specification.
4) Ability of making products according to the instruction of the drawings with well-selected suitable machine tools and measuring equipment.
5) Promote capacity for examining and discussing the result of the evaluation.  
Class Schedule lesson1: Conceptual design and plan for production. The limitation of doing tasks will be informed and instructed. Design the performance of the gear box which will be made. Then, find out and select suitable gears which fulfil the performance and the strength of the gear box.

Every week, submit the report in the prescribed form about discussion in your group and individual activity according to your group discussion.

Preparation and
Review
All instruction and tasks will be given according to the schedule as described above. Enough preparation will be recommended in order to done the individual tasks. Careful reading and examining of the material given in the class, and researching about the necessary information to do tasks sufficiently are strongly recommended in every week. The weekly reports which describe the progress of your project, the detail of group discussion, individual activities and contribution to the tasks in your project should be submitted at the beginning of the every class.  
Requirements To finish this class, All tasks and reports should be submitted.
Finishing the CAD is required to register for this class. Finishing “Machining Practice”, “Drafting”, “Mechanism and Dynamics”, “the Strength of Materials I”, “Design of Machine Elements I”, and “Design of Machine Elements II” is strongly recommended before registration for this class.
This class is useful to understand: “Machining and Grindings”, “Mechatronics”, “Machine Design” . 
Grading Method Tasks (Homework 30%, Proposals and Design Specifications 30%, Report of the Project 30%) are evaluated. Students who score more than 60% will get the credits of this class.
In this class, mutual cooperation of all members of each groups and accomplishments of each group’s goals are treated as important. In principle, absence is prohibited because absence of a people weighs the burden of the other members and influences critically on the accomplishments of the group project.
