Class Objectives
/Class Outline
Students will develop an understanding of the physical and mental characteristics of the elderly and the diversity of their health levels, and will develop the practical nursing skills necessary to support the health and independence of the elderly at various health levels. Students will acquire the ability to comprehensively assess the elderly admitted to an advanced acute care hospital and practice nursing care for health issues. Students will deepen their understanding of death with dignity by learning to holistically understand the suffering of the elderly in the final stages of life and the practice of palliative care. 
Class Schedule Therapeutic Phase Practicum (1w): The course will cover pathophysiology and treatment, and their effects on the physical, mental, social, and spiritual aspects of the elderly. Understand the effects of aging on the physical, mental, social, and spiritual aspects of the elderly.
Understand the past lives of the elderly and consider their future lives. To plan and practice nursing care based on assessment.
Palliative Care Practicum (1w): To understand the physical, mental, social and spiritual health issues of the elderly admitted to the Palliative Care Unit. To understand the assessment and management of distress symptoms. To understand the medical care provided to the elderly in the final stages of life in the Palliative Care Unit. To deepen understanding of dignified death of the elderly, and to consider nursing care that supports living to the end of life.
