Class Objectives
/Class Outline
There are various types of chemical reactions, which are kinetically analyzed by suitable methods. Those methods are introduced with experimentally evaluated reaction-rates. The objective in this course is to acquire the following knowledge and ability.
1. Able to understand molecular motions in gases and analyze them.
2. Able to understand molecular motions in liquids and analyze them.
3. Acquire experimental technique to evaluate the reaction rates.
4. Acquire analysis methods using reaction rate equations  
Class Schedule Lesson1: Brief review of contents and meanings in this course and introduction of molecular motions in gases.
Lesson2: Molecular motions in gases (pressure and molecular speed).
Lesson3: Molecular motions in gases (distribution of speeds).
Lesson4: Molecular motions in gases, collisions (effusion rates, transport properties).
Lesson5: Molecular motions in liquids (conductivities of electrolyte solutions and mobilities of ions).
Lesson6: Molecular motions in liquids (diffusion).
Lesson7: mid-term examination and summary of molecular motions in gases and liquids.
Lesson8: Chemical reaction rates (experimental technique and reaction rate laws, first-order reactions and half-life time).
Lesson9: Chemical reaction rates (second-order reactions, reactions approaching equilibrium).
Lesson10: Chemical reaction rates (temperature dependence: Arrhenius equation).
Lesson11: Chemical reaction rates (accounting rate laws:  consecutive elementary reactions and steady-state approximations).
Lesson12: Chemical reaction rates (accounting rate laws: pre-equilibria).
Lesson13: Rate lows for chain reactions.
Lesson14: Photochemistry and Michaelis-Menten mechanism.
Lesson15: final examination and summary of chemical reaction rates.
