The subject to learn biodeiversity, classification, and phylogeny and the subject to learn how to observe normal development of marine animals and to perform molecular biological experiments.

・Based on basic knowledge which is already acquired, to obtain the following experimental skills in order to practice research: 1) Basic observation skills and skills to manage experiments. 2) Ability to record observed natural phenomena. 3) Ability to collect and assess data. 
Class Objectives
/Class Outline
There are three different courses, Marine Biological Course for Basic Ecology, Marine Biological Course for Evo-Devo I, Marine Biological Course for Evo-Devo II). We expect the students to have their own experience on the diversity and commonality of animal development by observing the normal development of marine animals. Participant will also learn the techniques such as microinjection and in situ hybridization, genome editiing. 
Class Schedule Marine Biological Course for Basic Ecology
1. Lecture for ecological and mmorphological diversity of marine animals
2. Collecting intertidal organism at sandbar and rocky shore and observation and sketch
3. Plankton sampling by plankton net and observation and sketch under microscope
4. Collecting and sketch of sea firefly
5. Classification of the collected organisms according to higher taxon    
6. Identification and sketch of the organisms
7. Genome extraction and molecular phylogenetic analysis of collected organisms
8. Summary and Presentation

Marine Biological Course for Evo-Devo I
1. Lecture for comparative embryology
2. Sea urchin development
3. Ascidian development
4. Observation and sketch of the fixed embryos of hemichordates.
5. Gene expression analysis of deuterostome (hemichordate, sea urchin, ascidian)Presentation
6. Summary and Presentation

Marine Biological Course for Evo-Devo II
1. Lecture for fertilization, development, evolution
2. Sea Urchin developmenet
3. Ascidian development
4. Transfenic experiment
5. Gene function analysis
6. Lecture and experiment of genome editing

8. Anatomy of amphioxus

Preparation and
All students are expected to prepare for the course with the text provided by the marine lab. 
Requirements Application form has to be submitted to the Student Support Office of the Faculty School of Science by the closing date.  The students with any kind of allergy and/or idiosyncrasy must inform us in advance. 
Grading Method A grading will be given by evaluating practical attitude, presentation, report, comprehensively.

You can take all the three courses, however, you can obtain the credit only for one course.
