Microbes' position in the molecular phylogenetic tree and their roles in the environments are overviewed to understand the importance of studying microbes.

Bacteria:
Typical shape and components of eubacterial cells are outlined with an emphasis on their difference from eukaryote cells.

Animal Development (1): an overview of life cycle; mechanisms of
fertilization, cleavage, germ layer formation and gastrulation

Animal Development (2): cell differentiation and body patterning directed by inducing factors

Overview of innate immunity and adaptive immunity

Overview of gonadal development, functions and hormones in vertebrates


Osmoregulation and Excretion
This class will provide an overview of forms and functions of excretion organs in vertebrates and invertebrates.

Neuronal signaling
Topics in this class are, 1) the architecture of nervous system in vertebrates and invertebrates, and 2) the cellular mechanism that is fundamental to the neural communication.
