The objectives of this class is to give students the ability to read long compositions at intermediate level, gain sufficient reading comprehension to understand what the authors try to convey and also foster the ability to express accurately what the content of those texts means.  
Class Schedule 1. Orientation.  Self-introduction.
2. Reading Comprehension “Shinjuku” (Introduction)
3. Case particles 1 “で、に”, Relative structure, Suffix “館、口、者”
4. Case particles 2 “へ、を、と”, Contrastive “は”, Conjunction “それで”
5. Reading Comprehension “Japanese Dialects” (Introduction)
6. Quotations “と、~といいます、~という~”, “同じ/違う”
7. Conjunction”時”, Verb”なる”, Pronoun”の”
8. Mid-term Exam
9.Reading Comprehension “Nihonma” (Introduction)
10.Intransitive/transitive verbs, Verb”表す”, Adverb”もう、まだ”
11. Subsidiary Verb”〜ていく”, Experience”〜ことがある”, Suffixes”人、風、的”
12. Reading Comprehension “Manga Culture” (Introduction)

Mid-term and Final exam will be given.

During the class, students will have to answer questions about the content of long compositions they have read, after vocabulary and sentence structures in those compositions have been explained. Also, whenever appropriate explanations concerning Japanese culture related to the topic will be given.

Students are expected to read the text aloud at least once and check the meanings of the new words. 
Requirements "Level3 or 2" proficiency in Japanese (Authorized by Morito Institute) is required. This class consists of two lectures a week. Students are required to attend both of them. 
Grading Method Contribution to the class(20%), assignment(10%), Mid and Final exam(70%)
It is required to attend at least 11 of the classes to have credits.
