Class Objectives
/Class Outline
In this program, students attend preliminary lectures for about three months, and then participate in overseas experiential learning for a week. After returning to Japan, they attend follow-up lectures for about three months, make a presentation in English, and submit a report.
Students attending this program will enhance their global competence through active learning, peer learning and cooperative learning, self-learning thematic exploration and results presentation, and discussions with overseas students.
Class Schedule In both preliminary lectures and follow-up lectures, each lecture will be conducted using a mix of the following learning methods:
MW: Magic Word  Learning phrases that can be used in actual conversation, and acquire classroom English used for pair work and group discussions
Learning cross-cultural understanding (nonverbal communication), Conversation Management, etc. through activities
SC: Speedy Comprehension  Learning speed reading techniques through exercises and pair work
RT: Reading Time  Reading English books using speed reading techniques acquired by SC
ACT1 Mastering Quick Response Program* through English activities
QRP  Practicing visualizing English that you hear
SO: Speak Out  Practicing conversation in pairs, fully mastering self-study vocabulary and conversational expressions, and preparing for acquiring Conversation Management

*Quick Response Program: a program that helps you demonstrate your abilities to reason, guess, gain insights, judge, decide, and take proactive approaches quickly in surroundings where you use English as a tool

[Preliminary Lectures]: Both the instructor and students use English only (90 min./lecture)

lesson 2: MW, Cross-cultural understanding (nonverbal communication), SC (word and letter recognition that forms a foundation for scanning), SO (self-introduction)

[Follow-Up Session]
Let’s T: Let’s Talk About It
An advanced version of Speak Outs in the preliminary lectures, focusing on conversation management. Learning how to continue conversations and develop topics.
ACT2: An advanced version of ACT1 in the preliminary lectures, practicing self-produced activities (that you made in Activity group work) all in English that consist of presentation, the moderator’s role, and class management.
MQ: Making Questions
Each student makes and reads aloud questions while slash reading paragraphs. Listeners take notes in English, and answer the questions. It is pair work focusing on the abilities of reading aloud, paying attention to slash reading, and listening comprehension.

Suggestions on
Preparation and
-Develop your four skills using assignments provided every week (Vocabulary Note and Self-Study Workbook for Communication in English (web)).
-You will work on individual and group studies before participating in overseas training. Prepare using “A Journey to Your Bright Future” and assigned reading books according to the purposes.
-During your overseas stay, practice the English communication that you learned in the first-semester classes.
Grading Method The grade will be made on the basis of a comprehensive assessment of learning outcomes, based on TOEIC scores, participation attitudes, a report submitted after returning to Japan, assignments, etc.

Other We will use only original textbooks and homework materials that correspond to the lectures and cross-cultural experience overseas.
