Microorganisms has played an important role in understanding mechanisms of cellular processes and in current biotechnology, also has been used in various industries such as food industry, medical and environmental conservation fields. The class begins with a basic knowledge of microorganisms, then introduces the roles of microorganisms in understanding of phenomenon of life and the examples of their industrial application. Students should learn to come up with an original idea of industrial application of microorganisms in future. 
Class Schedule 1: Orientation

2: Discovery of Microorganisms and Development of Microbiology

3-5: Use of Microorganisms as Model Organisms and Genetic Methods

(yeast heterothallism、forward genetics、haploinsufficiency、genetic interaction、chemical genetics、system biology、Nobel Prize)

6-8: Industrial Application of Microorganisms

(fermentation、antibiotics、biomass、bioethanol、arming yeast、self cloning、gene recombination technique)
