This year, some issues will be handled online(including a part of face-to-face), so please check the schedule in advance and confirm with the person in charge of the issue. Students acquire the abilities to
1. Arrange the experimental results to evaluate the validity of the experimental results.
2. Logically explain their findings in each experiment in comparison to the theories in oral test and report.
3. Solve the problem with group discussing from an understanding of their role and consider the phenomena spontaneously.
(1) Concrete
1) Physical properties of materials and production of RC beam
 To design mix proportion of concrete and conduct appropriate modification of the mix proportion from the results of tests for slump and air content. To evaluate workability of concrete from the state of fresh concrete.
2) Bending/shear test of RC beam
 To understand and explain a stress-strain relationship of concrete, the behavior of chloride ion diffusion into concrete and carbonation of concrete. To calculate the stresses of tension and shear reinforcements in an RC beam and the flexural and shear strengths of the RC.
(2) Soil
1) Consistency limit and Consolidation Tests
 Under the consistency limit tests, liquid limit and plastic limit tests will be conducted. These are basic soil properties and it is used to classify the soils.
Consolidation test results are useful to determine the settlement with time for civil engineering structures.
2) Direct Shear and Tri-axial tests
 Tri-axial test is generally used to determine the shear strength parameters, cohesion and friction angle of cohesive soils under drained and un-drained situations. In general, direct shear test are to determine the shear strength parameters of cohesion-less soils. Shear strength parameters are very important to determine bearing capacity of soil, and stability of slopes.
(3) Structural Engineering
1) Experiment for bending deformation of a beam
 You would be able to understand the beam theory by experimental method which be carried several loads testing and observing deformation behavior of a simple beam.
2) Test of material characteristics of steel.
A phenomenon of a stress-a distortion relation, elasticity and plasticity of steel can be understood and explained by doing a tension test of steel and observing deformation behavior.
(4) Hydraulics
Students should be able to understand Uniform flow, Rapidly varied flow, Gradually varied flow in Open Channel, Steady flow through a pipe, Laws of friction and Energy losses.
1) Resistance law for open channel flow and Energy loss in pipe channel flow
To discriminate subcritical, critical and supercritical flows in open channels, and to explain the phenomena in open channel flows.
To understand the resistance law and the energy losses in pipe flows, and to explain the phenomena in pipe flows.
(5) Environmental preservation
1) Survey of River Water Quality
 Water samples in a river are collected and analyzed to understand procedures, principles, and methods of water qualities for water environments.

The eight experiments will be carried out and an oral test will do before the experiment.
Students should submit report after every experiment.

Grading Method The total score is evaluated based on oral tests, experimental works and the reports. 
Practical Experience  
Summary of Practical Experience and Class Contents based on it  
Message Grouping and experiment schedule will be shown at the first class (guidance).
Students should take mask, clothes, shoes, etc. suitable for experiments.
Students must take out accident insurance.

After that, please proceed with the group-based implementation day under the folder for each assignment.
