Class Objectives
/Class Outline
Basic drawing and design methods required as a chemical engineer are explained, and easy drawing and design problem are exercised. Drawing by CAD and Machine shop practice in small group are performed. Students can calculate performance design of chemical equipment and draw production drawing by this lecture.

The evaluation items are as follows.
1) Students can acquire drawing laws and draw drawing rudimentary.
2) Students can write a character, a figure and the Roman alphabet base on drawing laws.
3) Students can draw three-dimensional drawing by third angle projection.
4) Students can draw an assembly drawing of a bolt and a nut.
5) Students can design and draw a flange.
6) Students can draw a flange, a bolt and a nut using CAD.
7) Students can calculate performance design of a heat exchanger and draw a detail drawing and an assembly drawing.
8) Students can do turning up the wick work, tap making work and hacksaw work.
9) Students can operate a machine tool (milling machine, boring machine and cotter machine). 
Class Schedule Lesson 1: The explanation of acquaintanceship of design and drawing of chemical equipment, the contents of lecture and the drawing materials. Practice of the character, a figure and the Roman alphabet.
Lesson 2: The explanation of the basis of drawing (drawing laws, lines and the reduced scales, etc.). Practice of a line, a ring and a business container vision. Design calculation problem of a heat exchanger.
Lesson 3: The explanation of the basis of drawing (projection and dimensioning method, etc.). Practice of drawing by 3rd angle projection.
Lesson 4: The safety training for construction and the explanation of a basis of drawing (screw drawing). Practice of the drawing of third angle projection method by three-dimensional figure.
Lesson 5: The explanation of the basis of drawing (screw drafting). Drawing of a bolt and a nut.
Lesson 6: The explanation of indication of the surface in a face. Assembly drawing of a bolt and a nut.
Lesson 7: The explanation of conventional welding signs. Drawing of a flange.
Lesson 8: The drawing of flange, a bolt and a nut by CAD.
Lesson 9: The explanation of material mark. Drafting of a flange.
Lesson 10: The explanation of geometric tolerance. Drawing of a heat exchanger.
Lesson 11: The explanation of fit. Drawing of a heat exchanger.
Lesson 12: Drawing of a heat exchanger.
Lesson 13: The Drawing of a heat exchanger (assembly drawing).
Lesson 14: The Drawing of a heat exchanger. Term-end examination.
Lesson 15: The Drawing of a heat exchanger (assembly and part drawings).

A term-end examination is performed.

Making is performed in small group after lesson 5. Turning up the wick work, tap making work and hacksaw work, milling machine operation, drill press operation and cotter mechanical operation

Review
Lesson 1: A practice of the character, a figure and the Roman alphabet is performed, so bring writing implements.
Lesson 1-11: The confirmation and the review of the class contents. Review about screw drawing (Lesson 5) in particular. The design of a heat exchanger (Lesson 2).
Students must resubmit calculation until it's passed. The calculation should finish by Lesson 10. Read about the operation method of the CAD of a sub-text before Lesson 8. The USB memory to save drawing data is prepared.
Lesson 10-15: To understand the structure of the heat exchanger, check a reference book in a library. 
Requirements  
Grading Method The specifications and the drawing (60%), a term-end examination (30%) and a construction training (10%)
More than 60 points is passed.

Summary of Practical Experience and Class Contents based on it A faculty member with experience working at a major chemical fiber company will provide guidance on the design and drawing of chemical plant equipment.
