Under the situation of Hiroshima University Action Guidelines Level 3 (as of April 22, 2020) in corona infection control,
"Only one instructor is in the lecture room and use the teams for distance lectures". At that time, "Students who do not have an internet environment can enter the 4 lecture rooms designated by Student Support as long as they are delivered to the support room."

This class belongs to the "Field of specialty: Material and processing science" in the specialized subjects of the course of the Clustr 1: Mechanical Systems Engineering, and offers deep knowledge and deep understanding about the specialized technology on the basis of fundamental subjects which the students have learned.

Material Science, Mechanical Material I and II, Fusion and Solidification Processings I, and Theory of Plasticity are the foundations of this class.

Class Objectives
/Class Outline
This class consists of lectures on powder metallurgy and casting process, which are important sectors of production and processing technology. Students can understand processing principle of powder metallurgy and casting process, important technical issues (perspective for designing good working process), selection of processing method and its improvement through this class. Class objectives are as follows:
1) To acquire the ability to understand and describe the types of casting and their features. (B)
2) To acquire the ability to preparate and design the casting products. (B)
3) To acquire the ability to understand and explain the principles and features of the powder metallurgy processing method. (B)
4) To acquire judgment on introducing sintered parts (powder metallurgy products) into designs of mass-produced equipments. (B)

Casting part (lesson 1-- lesson 7) will be taught by Sasaki.
Powder metallurgy part (lesson 8-- lesson 15) will be taught by  Matsugi.

Perusal of handouts and review of keywords in the class. 
Requirements It is desirable that students have already learned Materials Science, Mechanical Material I and II, Theory of Plasticity, and Fusion and Solidification Processings I. 
Grading Method Grading is determined by achievement of the "Class Objectives" and learning attitude. The achievement of the "Class Objectives" (80% of grading) is assessed by the written final examination, and the learning attitude (20% of grading) is evaluated by two reports. More than 60% of total grading is necessary for passing.
