Class Objectives
/Class Outline
This course provides operation and safety of machine tools. The students will understand importance of engineering knowledge, e.g. mechanics, machine material, machining method, and so on, to design and manufacture a machine. Then, the students will learn the safety on machine tool operations and the basic operation of machine tools, and obtain the ability to determine the manufacturing method of a part on the drawings.  
Class Schedule lesson1: Introduction to shop safety and operation of machine tools.
lesson2: Machine shop training. (Machining the parts of gear pump)
lesson3: Machine shop training. (Machining the parts of gear pump)
lesson4; Machine shop training. (Machining the parts of gear pump)
lesson5: Machine shop training. (Machining the parts of gear pump)
lesson6: Machine shop training. (Machining the parts of gear pump)
lesson7: Machine shop training. (Machining the parts of gear pump)
lesson8: Machine shop training. (Machining the parts of gear pump)
lesson9: Machine shop training. (Machining the parts of gear pump)
lesson10: Machine shop training. (Machining the parts of gear pump)
lesson11: Machine shop training. (Machining the parts of gear pump)
lesson12:Casting and introduction to machine tool operation.  
lesson13:  Lectures and basic operation on machine tools unused in Lesson 2-11.

After all lessons are completed, students will be required to submit the report.

In lesson 2-5, the students are divided into five groups, and have practical training for two classes as follows:
1. Machine tool I (Turning, Gear cutting, Wire electrical  discharge machining)
2. Machine tool II (Vertical milling, Plain milling)
3. NC Machine (Machining center, NC turning)
4. Hand finishing (Scribing, Drill pressing, Filing)
5. Welding (Electric-arc welding)
6. Safety training program

Please study the text book before practical training.  
Requirements Machine Shop Training (a) and (b) are same in the content. To have class with small group, one grade is divided to two groups, and the each group is divided to class (a) and (b), again. Therefore, the student must take only one class, either Machine Shop Training (a) or (b).  
Grading Method The students are required to attend all class and to submit the report. The grading is accomplished by behavior in the class and submitted report.
