・Knowledge about disease prevention, examination, medical check-up, diagnosis, and treatment related to dentistry and other related studies.

The aim of this class is for students to understand dental and oral health care for people requiring special care dentistry. 
Class Schedule Lesson 1: Introduction (1) Backgrounds and normalization
Lesson 2: Introduction (2) Special needs in dentistry
Lesson 3: Intellectual disability and developmental disorder
Lesson 4: Autistic spectrum disorder
Lesson 5:  Motor & neural function disorder--cerebral palsy and muscular dystrophy
Lesson 6: Sensory disturbance
Lesson 7: Chromosomal abnormality, syndromes--Down synd. etc
Lesson 8: Behavioral managements for special needs patients
Lesson 9: Internal dysfunctions (1)-- Cardiovascular diseases
Lesson 10: Internal dysfunctions (2)--Cerebrovascular diseases & dementia (special lecture 1)
Lesson 11: Internal dysfunctions (3)--Pulmonary diseases
Lesson 12: Internal dysfunctions (4)--Digestive & endocrine diseases
Lesson 13: Oral health care for special-needs patients
Lesson 14: Welfare in special care dentistry
Lesson 15: Decision support for special-needs patients (special lecture 2)

The examination will be done for 90 min just before L 15.
Hand in your report on the contents of L 15 at the last of this course.

Grading Method Evaluation includes not only results of paper examination but also attendance, attitude.

Summary of Practical Experience and Class Contents based on it  
Message All the slides of the lectures are written in both Japanese and English. Some questions of the examination  will be in English.
 
Other Certificated dentists introduce disabled patients treated in the department pf Special needs dentistry and demonstrate how to treat them.
