Criterion referenced Evaluation | Elementary School Teacher Education (Abilities and Skills) ・Being able to design teaching plans and curriculums in elementary schools and develop them on the basis of children's actual situation (Practical teaching skills). |
Class Objectives /Class Outline |
The objective of this course is to examine how science lesson in elementary schools should be from both theoretical and practical aspects by designing a lesson plan of elementary science and giving a trial lesson based on it, and to cultivate capabilities to make a concept, practice, and improve a science lesson. In order to achieve above, students will make a concept of a science lesson and plan it in consideration of researches of material studies related to the contents of elementary science, give a trial lesson based on the lesson plan, and have a discussion over issues and points to be improved. Concept making and planning of a teaching plan will be done in a group depending on the number of students. |
Class Schedule |
Lesson1: Orientation, learning contents and teaching methods for elementary science Lesson2: Teaching methods and materials effective for proactive, interactive and deep learning in elementary science Learn about teaching methods and materials effective for proactive, interactive and deep learning in case of “Properties of magnet” and “Rules of pendulums”, and discuss for improving them based on examining practice examples. Lesson3: Teaching methods and materials effective for constructing of scientific conceptions from misconceptions of learners Learn about teaching methods and materials effective for constructing of scientific conceptions from misconceptions of learners in case of “Regularity of a lever”, and discuss for improving them based on examining practice examples. Lesson4: Teaching methods and materials effective for connecting various units of elementary science Learn about teaching methods and materials effective for connecting different units of elementary science in case of the area “Particle” in the 3rd and 4th grades, and discuss for improving them based on examining practice examples. Lesson5: Teaching methods and materials effective for programming learning in elementary science Learn about teaching methods and materials effective for programming learning in case of “Use of electricity”, and discuss for improving them based on examining practice examples. Lesson6: Teaching methods and materials effective for nurturing critical thinking in elementary science Learn about teaching methods and materials effective for nurturing critical thinking in case of “Rules of pendulums” and “Mechanism of combustion”, and discuss for improving them based on examining practice examples. Lesson7: Theme-setting in groups Decide and examine a theme unit among units of elementary science for improving teaching methods and materials. Lesson8: Collecting and analyzing of literature and documents in groups Collect and analyze in groups literature and documents concerning the theme unit that are textbook, survey data of learners’ cognition, and related to teaching methods and materials. Lesson9: Devising of teaching methods and practice observation and experiment for improving teaching materials in groups Devise teaching methods and practice observation and experiment for improving teaching materials concerning the theme unit in groups. Lesson10: Developing of teaching plan in groups Develope a teaching plan of the theme unit in groups. Lesson11: Devising and discuss on the trial lesson in groups Devise a trial lesson based on teaching plan of the theme unit in groups, and discuss how to practice the lesson while assuming learners’ thinking and activities. Lesson12: Practice and reflect trial lessons(1st group and 2nd group) Practice and reflect trial lessons including presentation of research products(1st group and 2nd group) Lesson13: Practice and reflect trial lessons(3rd group and 4th group) Practice and reflect trial lessons including presentation of research products(3rd group and 4th group) Lesson14: Practice and reflect trial lessons(5th group and 6th group) Practice and reflect trial lessons including presentation of research products(5th group and 6th group) Lesson15: Reviewing results and summaries bases on trial lessons |
