(Abilities and Skills)
・The ability and skills to collect and analyze necessary literature or data among various sources of information on individual academic disciplines.
・The ability and skills to specify necessary theories and methods for consideration of issues.
・The abilities and skills to summarize one's own research in reports or academic papers, and to deliver presentations at a seminar or research meetings, and to answer questions.
(Comprehensive Abilities)
・The ability to conduct research proactively by combining knowledge,  understanding, and skills for the tasks, based on flexible creativity and imagination.
Class Objectives
/Class Outline
To learn basic knowledge and experimental techniques required for analyses and interpretation of natural environments through laboratory and field studies.
Class Schedule ・How to use Excel (1-3: Namiki)
For understanding experimental results, as well as for visualization of theories, a skill of data analysis is required. By using the Excel and its supplementary software Visual Basic Applications (VBA), we will learn the basic data analyses and a repetitive processing. We use Excel preinstalled in your personal computer, so please do not forget to bring your computer.
・Basic exercises of field surveying. (4-6: Kaibori, Hasegawa, Niko)
・Colloid Science (7-12: Villeneuve, Iwamoto)
1. Length of paper tapes [statistics, accuracy and precision, significant figures]
2. Surface tension measurement of surfactant solution [thermodynamics]
3. Synthesis and coagulation of Fe(OH)3 colloid [stability of colloids]
4. Size distribution of aerosol [statistics, stability of colloids, thermodynamics]
・Evaluation of biodiversity in a forest ecosystem. (13-15: Okuda, Yamada)
