Class Objectives
/Class Outline
"In relation to education materials used in junior high school social studies and high school civics, contents of ethics education, especially contents concerning ""ethics of people living in the modern society,"" will be explained from the view point of applied ethics, and ethics educational material development direction will be discussed.
It is difficult to define applied ethics, but ""in a wide sense to pursue ethical sides of individual or social problems or politic and system operation, or to apply ethical consideration to those various problems. In a sense, it is a practical deduction to utilize ethical reasons, rules, principles, or values to evaluate individual or group behaviors."" (Becker(ed.), Encyclopedia of Ethics, p.49)
In the field of applied ethics, bioethics, environmental ethics, business ethics, and information ethics are included. In this class, from the view point of civics education, by introducing concrete discussions on this area, basic critical mind and structure of research methods will be studied, and education material research and development abilities in the field of social studies education and ethics education (moral education) will be acquired."
