授業の目標・概要等 The class will introduce basic concepts of sustainability applicable to human life and environmental stability. After taking the class, the students are expected to better understand and participate in discussions affecting humans and the environment in both developed and underdeveloped countries.

lesson2 Biodiversity and its role in human and earth systems
lesson3 Deforestation and its socio-economic impacts
lesson4 Think globally, act locally: Creative solutions to address deforestation
lesson5 Climate change impacts on biological systems
lesson6 Remediation and restoration of disturbed aquatic ecosystems
lesson7 Impacts of alien and invasive plants and animals
lesson8 UN SDGs - Aquatic food production and the blue economy
lesson9 Food waste, food loss and global hunger
lesson10 Sustainable agriculture
lesson11 Human population and its social impacts
lesson12 Fertilizer resources supporting agricultural crop production

Final examination consisting of questions which can be answered with short and practical answers based on lessons learned in class and prior knowledge. Instructors will assist students in completing reports.

Difficult technical words in English will be explained clearly. English will be spoken slowly and clearly by the instructors. 
教科書・参考書等 No prescribed text or reference books but occasionally hand-outs and notes will be distributed

【詳細情報】 Basic lecture using Power Point slides, occasionally YouTube videos will be assigned for home viewing as supplemental class material

アドバイス
Average level of English speaking, reading and listening comprehension will be helpful. The class is a good way to practice English listening skills in particular. 
履修上の注意
受講条件等
Students can bring their laptops and English-Japanese dictionaries at all times.  
成績評価の基準等 Submission of written assignments and short reports. Passing of final examinations (written test at the end of the term) - 30% assignment scores + 20% Attitude+ 50% examination/quizzes

メッセージ Instructors are available for student consultation outside of class hours. Students can make appointments with instructors to consult about lessons and related matters, especially if more information is needed by students. 
その他 The instructors will teach using English even if no one among them is a native English speaker. Students are encouraged to use class experience in increasing their confidence and strengthen their skills in English communications. Gaining better language skills can only be achieved through constant practice such as in this class.
