授業の目標・概要等 In this course we learn Buddhist ethics present in the Buddhist Canons in ancient South Asia (India and Sri Lanka). Some related teachings in Buddhism and Hinduism (Brahmanism) are also studied. Through this course, students will learn how the Buddhist Canons teach about controling desires, capital punishment, warfare, animals, and so on. Course materials (PDFs of articles and book chapters) are provided, and every student is required to make a presentation by use of the article or book chapter that one has chosen.

受講条件等 You need to be interested in Buddhism, South Asian religions, and/or ethics. Your English level is expected to be above TOEFL PBT450, iBT45 or TOEIC 600.
総合科学部旧プログラム学生が単位修得した場合，それぞれの入学年度の学生便覧「総合科学部専門教育科目一覧表」の区分のうち，人間文化プログラムの授業科目の単位を履修したものとして取り扱う。

成績評価の基準等 Class performance 50% and the final paper 50%.
